WISDOM ON WHEELS
WISDOM ON WHEELS, Tiny Library

Topic : Designing a learning space
Host : Volume Zero International Design Competition
Year: 2020

Design Concept : Rural India often faces challenges of availability and accessibility to basic amenities due to hurdles of challenging terrains, inadequate resources, and absence of infrastructure. Pahiye pe Pragya aims to bridge the gap through a mobile facility that can reach people door to door, one village at a time.
For purpose of demonstration, Majuli was selected as the pilot site as people from the surrounding villages are connected to Majuli, for healthcare, education, and agriculture purpose. Every year, the Brahmaputra floods wash away the bamboo bridge and people must rely on water transport as the primary means of transport and communication.
The Pahiye pe Pragya module can be scaled and replicated to cater to any rural settlements that cannot be accessed by roadways and are physically divided by water networks. The locally sourced construction materials with the incorporation of a solar roof, make this module self-sustainable. Multiple functions can be plugged in on a need basis along with the library, health facility and accommodation.

ENTEKOCHI - Envisioning Mullasserry Park Precinct, Kochi

Topic : Envisioning Mullasserry Park Precinct, Kochi, Kerala.
Host : Kochi Municipal Corporation, GIZ India, Urbanista and URBZ
Competition done in collaboration with : Educated Environments, Ratan J Batliboi-Consultants Pvt Ltd and Mandira Design Studio.
Year: 2020

The conceptual idea started with an enquiry into how do we transform the Kochi of today into a 'My Kochi' vision by churnings of the EnteKochi program. With the stakeholder participation being the key, the approch was to see how the response to the Mullasserry Canal precincts could have a larger resonance for the CBD (Central Business District) it touches and then larger city of Kochi. The answer lay in linking its layers of natural assets to its interactive urban placemaking which then became flood and climate mitigating features.
The intent was to propose a solution for the ecological, socio-cultural integration of people, place and participation, linked by a floating walkway which snakes playfully on and off the canal and also acts as an emergency response for tides and fluctuating water levels.
